Rumors : Canon to Announce 8-10 RF/RF-S Lenses Before March 2024

Canon is expected to announce 8-10 RF/RF-S Lenses Before March 2024. Sources suggest that Canon has numerous new RF and RF-S lenses planned for release between now and March 2024.

While specific lenses have not yet been confirmed, it’s expected that Canon will make at least two lens announcements before the end of September 2023. Additional lenses may also be unveiled later in 2023 and early 2024.

The lenses said to be in development span a range of focal lengths and include fast prime lenses as well as zooms. Of particular interest are wider angle prime lenses, which many Canon shooters have been eagerly awaiting.

Canon traditionally makes product announcements at the CP+ show in Yokohama, Japan each February. 2024 will mark the next CP+ show, where Canon may unveil some of their new higher-end camera bodies along with new lenses.

In total, sources suggest Canon has 8-10 upcoming RF and RF-S lenses planned leading up to March 2024.

Canon RF 28mm f/2.8 STM Pancake Prime Lens Announced

In addition to the new R100 camera, Canon has announced the RF 28mm f/2.8 STM, a new pancake prime lens for its RF system. The US price for Canon RF 28mm f/2.8 STM lens is $299, now available for pre-order at  B&H Photo Video/Adorama/Amazon. Both EOS R100 and RF 28mm f/2.8 STM lens will be released in July 2023.

The RF 28mm acts as a wide-angle for full-frame cameras or a 45mm equivalent normal lens on APS-C bodies. The lens delivers up to 0.17x magnification at a minimum focusing distance of 0.23m (9 inches). With a maximum outer diameter of 69mm and 25mm long, the lens is modest in profile. At 120g (4.2 oz) is is also rather light as well.

It’s intended for travel, street and everyday use and could make a good partner for vlogging with the Canon R50 as it weighs just 120g and is only 24.7mm long.

Canon has been rumored the new lens to be RF 200-500mm f/4L IS USM 1.4x. With the teleconverter engaged, this lens could offer a focal length range of 280-700mm f/5.6L IS USM, perfect for wildlife and sports photography.

However the Canon RF 200-500mm f/4L IS USM lens will not come with a built-in teleconverter as rumored before. The reason for not having built-in teleconverter is that Canon want to make this lens much lighter.

Although the shortage of bodies has been resolved, it seems that there is still a shortage of very expensive super telephoto lenses.
