Canon RF 28mm f/2.8 STM Pancake Prime Lens Announced

In addition to the new R100 camera, Canon has announced the RF 28mm f/2.8 STM, a new pancake prime lens for its RF system. The US price for Canon RF 28mm f/2.8 STM lens is $299, now available for pre-order at  B&H Photo Video/Adorama/Amazon. Both EOS R100 and RF 28mm f/2.8 STM lens will be released in July 2023.

The RF 28mm acts as a wide-angle for full-frame cameras or a 45mm equivalent normal lens on APS-C bodies. The lens delivers up to 0.17x magnification at a minimum focusing distance of 0.23m (9 inches). With a maximum outer diameter of 69mm and 25mm long, the lens is modest in profile. At 120g (4.2 oz) is is also rather light as well.

It’s intended for travel, street and everyday use and could make a good partner for vlogging with the Canon R50 as it weighs just 120g and is only 24.7mm long.

Canon EOS R100 APS-C RF-mount Camera Announced

Canon announces EOS R100 entry-level APS-C RF-mount camera. The US price for Canon EOS R100 body is $479, now available for pre-order at B&H Photo Video/Adorama/Amazon.

The Canon EOS R100 has a 24.1MP APS-C format sensor paired with Canon’s Digic 8 processing engine which together enable the standard sensitivity settings up to ISO 12,800. Meanwhile, the maximum continuous shooting rate is 3.5 frames per second (fps) with continuous focusing and 6.5 fps in single AF mode.

On the video side, the older sensor and processor mean you get 4K (cropped) and 1080p (full-width) at up to 24p and 60p, respectively, though there is a vertical video capture option. And a feature called ‘Hybrid Auto mode’ takes 2–4 seconds of video before a still shot and automatically places it into a time lapse video.

According to Canon the R100 is compatible with all RF (with a 1.6 crop factor) and RF-S lenses, except for the Canon Control Ring Mount Adapter EF-EOS R, which will still act as an adapter but won’t allow users to use the control ring.

The Canon EOS R100 camera was designed for new, first-time mirrorless camera or existing interchangeable camera users who previously enjoyed EOS Rebel or EOS M cameras. The camera touts key features such as a 24.2 megapixel APS-C size sensor, the DIGIC 8 image processor, 4K (Cropped) and Full HD (Full-Width) video at up to 24 and 60 frames-per-second respectively, Autofocus with eye and face detection, and Bluetooth™ and Wi-Fi® connectivity capabilities. Canon will soon announce the new Canon EOS R100 APS-C entry-level camera and RF 28mm f/2.8 STM Lens. The US price of the upcoming Canon EOS R100 & RF 28mm f/2.8 STM Lens already leaked online.

Canon RF 200-500mm f/4L IS USM Lens Will Not Feature a Built-in teleconverter

Accroding to latest , the previously mentioned will not feature a built-in teleconverter.

Canon has been rumored the new lens to be RF 200-500mm f/4L IS USM 1.4x. With the teleconverter engaged, this lens could offer a focal length range of 280-700mm f/5.6L IS USM, perfect for wildlife and sports photography.

However the Canon RF 200-500mm f/4L IS USM lens will not come with a built-in teleconverter as rumored before. The reason for not having built-in teleconverter is that Canon want to make this lens much lighter.
