Venus Optics announced Laowa 20mm f/4.0 Shift lens for Canon EF/RF

Venus Optics announces 20mm f/4 ‘Zero-D’ Shift lens. The US price of the lens is $1,299. An optional lens support system, which will keep the lens in place while shifting your camera, is also available for an additional $249.

New Canon Patents for 1200mm f/8, 1200mm f/11, 800mm f/5.6 Lenses

Here are several new Canon patents that have been surfaced online. Designed for the EOS R full frame mirrorless system these are some super telephoto lenses.

Canon has filed several new RF mount super-telephoto lens patents for the Canon full frame mirrorless cameras. I guess we already seen these “1200mm f/8“,  and “800mm f/5.6” lenses announced and hope to see the missing “1200mm f/11” in near future.

Confirmed: Canon Australia Recalled Some EOS R5C Cameras Due to Autofocus Issues

It is now confirmed that Canon Australia recalled a small number of EOS R5C cameras because of autofocus issues. It seems that the rumors we reported just the other day were true and some EOS R5 C (Amazon/B&HPhoto/Adorama) cameras were recalled due to autofocus issues.

Canon EOS R5C Sales Halted in Australia ?

There are some interesting reports that Canon EOS R5 C (Amazon/B&HPhoto/Adorama) sales were halted in Australia because of some issue with the camera. The rumor states, Canon Australia was ordered by Canon Inc to halt Canon EOS R5 C sales. Apparently, a mail by Canon Australia is making the rounds. The Canon rumor cites “some issues” with the EOS R5 C without specifying them.

In an email sent to us (thank you), we received an email that Canon Australia has sent out stating that Canon Inc has asked them to halt sales of the Canon EOS R5C.

The email alludes that this is happening because of some issue with the camera. They mention in the email “I’d like to reassure you that there are no health and safety issues with the camera however, we want to ensure that the product is of the highest standard from a quality perspective.”

Canon Patent for RF 130mm f/2 Lens

Here is a new Canon patent describes an optical formula for a RF 130mm f/2 lens. Designed for the EOS R full frame mirrorless system this is a telephoto prime lens ideal for portrait photography.

As of writing it’s not clear if this will have the same macro features like the RF 100mm F2.8L Macro IS USM which is the world’s first AF macro optic.

Rumor Updates on Canon EOS R, Canon EOS RP and M50 Mark II Successors

According to latest rumors, the next batch of announcements includes Canon EOS R, Canon EOS RP, and Canon EOS M50 Mark II successors.

Of course this year’s main focus is the Canon EOS R1 which is rumored to be in testing. On the other hand it is being said that the company is also working to update several other models such as Canon EOS R, Canon EOS RP and M50 Mark II.

If everything goes under schedule, the successors will arrive at the end of 2022 or just in the beginning of 2023. As expected these Canon cameras would be the EOS R Mark II, EOS RP Mark II and M50 Mark III. Stay tuned for more information.

Canon has a patent for a camera mounted to a drone. The new Canon patent describes a formula for a small camera equipped with a gimbal system that is intended to be mounted on a drone:

  • An object of the present invention is to provide a drive device, an electronic device, an image pickup device, and a mobile body that can be miniaturized.
